McBride sentenced to five years

Former Ekurhuleni metro police chief Robert McBride has been sentenced to two years for drunk driving and five years for defeating the ends of justice. The two year sentence is suspended for a period of five years.

McBride was sentenced in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court after he was found guilty in April for drunk driving and defeating the ends of justice.

He was found to have been drunk when he crashed his state car on the R511 near Hartbeespoort Dam.

The State wants him to be sentenced to direct imprisonment on a count of defeating the ends of justice and a suspended sentence on a charge of drunken driving.
