A teenager has been arrested after a fellow pupil was shot outside their Vanderbijlpark primary school.
Warrant Officer Kinnie Steyn said the boy, 14, who had apparently been dared to bring his father's gun to school, allegedly shot the girl, 12, at about 1.45pm.
He fled and was apprehended by pupils.
A case of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm was opened.
