Petrol price going up 41 cents a litre

The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 41 cents a litre from next Wednesday, the energy department said.

Diesel with 0.05 percent sulphur would go up by 17.8 cents a litre wholesale, and diesel with 0.005 percent sulphur by 17.8 cents a litre.

The wholesale price of Illuminating paraffin would go up by 26 cents a litre, and the Single Maximum National Retail Price (SMNRP) would rise by 34 cents a litre.

The maximum retail price for LP GAS would go up by 73 cents a kilogram.

The department said that during the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin had increased.

The average rand/US dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period and this increased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin.

Petrol 95 ULP would cost R12.27, and 93 ULP and LRP R12.06 a litre in Gauteng.

Diesel 0.05 percent would cost R11.29 and diesel 0.005 R11.33 a litre in Gauteng.
