The new look on your face

From what we wear to what we put on our faces, spring is the time to polish up your look. We examined the big make-up trends for the new season.

The Swingin' '60s are a big inspiration in the world of make-up. It's time to get your Twiggy on. Remember: if you go bold with the eyes, keep the lips simple, and vice versa.

EYES

If indeed the eyes are windows to the soul, then this season our souls are dark, sexy and mysterious - with a touch of glitter and bright colour. Smoky eyes are still the rage. Eyeliner colours come in shades of blue and green, as well as pinks. Graphic eyeliner is sexy, so don't be afraid to be bold. Eyelashes are long and luscious. The lower lash line is also an attention-grabber, with eyeliner and bigger lashes on the bottom of your eyes. It's about fun and drama.

BROWS

If you have Frida Kahlo brows, you're in luck. A little bit of taming is all you need to do. Don't wax off your brows. Think model of the moment Cara Delevingne and actress Lily Collins - don't be afraid to let your eyebrows do the talking, some of the time.

LIPS

Red lipstick never goes out of fashion, and this season is no different. Channel your inner Gwen Stefani or Marilyn Monroe. If red is not your colour (though there is a shade for everyone, honestly), then wear something softer or try orange, blue (like Rihanna) or pink, either in shades that pop or more subdued shades. Nude lips are also big, as seen on actress Kerry Washington and socialite Nicole Richie. If nude is a bit too plain for you, try a pastel for a semi-nude look. Whatever colour your lips are, keep it matte. Shiny is last season.

FACE

Flawless skin is timeless. This season we're going easy on the bronzer and the blush. Powdered, matte skin is the look, as seen on the runways of Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli and Alexander Wang.
