South Africa 'no way' near total blackout, says minister

South Africa is in "no way close" to a total power blackout as utility Eskom struggles to meet demand for electricity, a government minister said on Wednesday. "Load shedding at stage 3 shows the seriousness of the constraints that we face but it is in no way an indication that we are close to a blackout," Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown told reporters, referring to power cuts.
