Pikitup workers are back on duty after embarking on yet another unprotected strike on Friday.

Pikitup spokesperson Jacky Mashapu said the striking South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) workers were back at work by midday on Friday.

He said the strike was a misunderstanding over salaries between the workers and the waste management company.

"There was an insinuation that workers would receive a 14th cheque. This was not the case. It was not part of the politically-facilitated agreement," he told News24.

Mashapu said they would release a joint statement with Samwu on Monday on the way forward.
