Want a sex change in SA? Be prepared to wait 25 years

While an Emirati woman seeks permission from the courts in the United Arab Emirates to have that country’s first sex change operation‚ hundreds of people are faced with the prospect of having to wait for up to 25 years to get the surgery done in South Africa. The 29 year old woman‚ who has testosterone levels similar to a man‚ could become the first person in the UAE to undergo the procedure since the country recently legalised gender reassignment surgery under a Medical Liability Law.
