Mampara of the week: Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi

Hogarth | 11 March, 2012 00:06

IS there a secret college somewhere where they teach police commissioners the fine art of Mamparadom?

Jackie Selebi is in jail. Bheki Cele is defending himself by claiming he did not read documents before signing them.

And now the acting police chief, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has threatened to fire his internal audit staff unless they disclose who leaked a report to the Sunday Times.

The report found that 27329 police officers on active duty had failed their firearms test.

Said he: "I am currently doing a criminal investigation into who leaked that paper to you. I will charge that person criminally because the document is classified. So the entire staff of internal audit, they are most likely going to be fired. You can write about that, because that's what I am going to be doing."

As for the small problem of 27000 cops wandering around with guns they don't know how to use? Not a priority.
