Sandile Shezi’s business partner was recently revealed to have a criminal past – a past for which he served his time.

Shezi choosing to stand by him shows two things which have to be remarked upon – that Shezi is both a man of integrity and honour.

It would have been easy to present that George van der Reit’s history was unknown to him. George served his time under the name David.

Shezi didn’t do that. He came out and said he knew – which is the honourable thing to do.

And he showed integrity long before that by giving va der Reit that second chance, noting that while Reit did commit a serious crime, he also did the time for it.

There are a lot of people who forget that ex part in ex-convict, and Shezi is not one of them.

Now I don’t know much about Shezi, but I do know this – there are young successful people in our country with a basic core of decency.

And this shows that he is one of them.

He has my respect.
