When my subconscious mind, or whatever force controls my dreams, really wants to mess me around, it throws in a scene in which I lose my teeth.

And occasionally, I wake up and touch my mouth to feel if, indeed, I have been transformed overnight into stokoloko, the township toothless dog.

So, I admire the people who don’t share my irrational fear of losing teeth. One of the brave ones is the man called Mthandazo Berning Ntlemeza, a plainly scary being, able to pop his wild eyes and spew the most incomprehensible bile ever and say, among other things, that an adverse judgment is merely the judge’s opinion, and do so with the conviction of a seasoned imposter.

The latest scandal involves a case of corruption and defeating the ends of justice opened against Ntlemeza linked to a missing docket in a matter dating back to his time as deputy provincial commissioner for Limpopo.
