Big day of drama and dress up

Kuli Roberts: Wedding bells are certainly in the air, what with Duduzile Zuma getting married last week. Showing off that ghastly tattoo must have horrified the Browns folk who lent her jewellery worth more than R1-million. Who can afford that? And why would I want to wear something around my neck that could feed a small country?

Meanwhile, everybody is excited about Kate Middleton and Prince Willam's wedding today, but I can't think of anything worse than being in London. All those crowds and fake smiles.

I must be honest, though. I can't wait to see her dress. The marrying folk do make an effort, especially if they are royal.

Though my wedding dress was a plain Jenni Button creation, there are some memorable dresses I'm sure we would love to forget.

Remember Tina Jaxa's dodgy halterneck dress, which she thought was complimented well by grey lipstick? Wow.

And what about the late Brenda Fassie's husband of two years, Nhlanhla Mbambo, who looked like he should have been in the army with his military-inspired outfit?

I believe wedding gowns should be simple and reflect the decade and current trends. They should not be white elephants.

But forget weddings for a minute and let me tell you about meeting some sexy guys from the band Prime Circle. I met them after the SA Music Awards nominations party, which they had missed.

Even though they were dressed like they had robbed an army surplus shop, the guys were sweet. I chatted to lead singer Ross Learmonth, who told me he was taken and did not really want a second girlfriend. How selfish. Does he not understand polygamy?

Beanie-wearing Neil Breytenbach, who plays keyboards, is also hot.

The boys were excited about their European tour, which kicks off in May, as well as about their various Sama nominations in about five categories.

For some reason, though, they seemed most interested in the MTN record of the year category, which is a hard one as there are about 20 nominations.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Paul Phiri from Rivals in Romance, who was more than keen to tell me about the women fighting for his attention on the M-Net television show. He went on about it but I tried not to judge him. I mean, this from a man who went on TV looking for love? But he is a looker, so I am not surprised.

Back to weddings. As you watch the royal spectacle today, please remember that marriage is supposed to last forever, hence the drama and significance of the day. But your wedding is allowed to be simple and to the point.

Think Zuraida Jardine and Lee-Ann Liebenberg, and forget about three-day weddings that will leave you broke.

I must admit, that Bheki Cele looked great on his wedding day. But, for today, grab your popcorn, check out which celebs you can spot at the wedding, and let's pray this royal romance lasts longer than Fergie and Andrew's marriage. And let's hope that Camilla does not feature too much in the picture because, really, she looks like a dude.
