Chill and forget the rat race

Stephanie Dawson-Cosser, Leonard Carr | 2013-09-03 00:14:27.0
Trying to do too much is a recipe for frustration and failure

I find life overwhelming, speeding along and feeling like I've done nothing well enough

INCESSANT busyness is a fake imitation of productivity. To be really productive you need time for planning, reflection, consideration.

You hold unreasonable expectations of yourself, which push you into constant production, which you execute in a sub-optimal manner. This makes you do a bad job, which makes you believe you need to try harder.

The more you betray yourself in this way, the lower your self-esteem.

Make time to unwind and reflect. Time gives you space to consider your true priorities and the best way to actualise them. - Leonard Carr

Keeping up with the rat race is hard. However, when we try to be all things to all people we forget who we are, and what gifts we bring to the world.

You need to discover your personal boundaries - in your personal life, work life and life in general. Do not over-pack your day. Only say "yes"to what you can realistically manage. Say "no" to the rest or give a realistic time frame.

Include at least one thing a day that gives you pleasure. - Stephanie Dawson-Cosser
