Accuracy needed in land matters

Jonathan Golding, by e-mail | 04 May, 2010 23:140 Comments

Jonathan Golding, by e-mail :Many people appear to believe that when white "settlers" pushed inland a few hundred years ago, they encountered and drove many people off land which they then took for themselves.

This is inaccurate. While it may be true of some areas, the interior of this country was sparsely populated at the time and much of the central land was totally unoccupied.

Moreover, the philosophy that anybody with a white skin does not qualify as a true South African is shameful and insulting. Many of us whiteys have been here for many generations. The forefathers of many with the requisite skin colour have been here for less time.

Such issues need mature debate at high levels. Maybe we can then move forward.
