Prostitution is not work

Taryn Hodgson, by e-mail | 06 June, 2010 00:000 Comments

Taryn Hodgson: Referring to "Sex workers hope for World Cup bonanza" (May 30), sexual acts in prostitution committed by the "customer" on the women involve humiliation, exploitation and degrading verbal and physical abuse.

There is rarely (if ever) any love, mutual affection or mutual respect. Prostitution can be seen as paid rape. The illusion that prostitution is "work" or a choice is manipulative and deceptive.
