Choose best coach for the Bafana job

Kiekie Mboweni, Nkowankowa: Is it a foregone conclusion that Pitso "Jingles" Mosimane will be announced as the Bafana coach to replace Carlos Alberto Parreira?

If reports are anything to go by then Mosimane will be the new man in charge to take the team to the Afcon in 2012 and the World Cup in 2014.

But the question needs to be asked whether Mosimane is the best man for the job, based on his qualifications and experience - not on where he was before and his nationality.

The criteria should be: is he fit for the purpose?

The Bafana job needs a strong personality who will command the players' respect - not that Pitso does not possess such qualities.

Maintaining continuity of Parreira's work and being an assistant for the past four and a half years could be the wrong criteria to look for in the new Bafana coach.

I know it would be a bitter pill to swallow for him to remain assistant coach but I am still not convinced that he has grasped the mental and tactical aspects of coaching at the highest level.

I hope whoever gets the job understands the huge responsibility that comes with coaching this team.

May the SA Football Association appoint the best person for the job.
