Thank God I'm not British
Dan Roodt: To see Matthew Blatchford refer to my "Afrikaner ethnic psychoses" in "Nonsense which will bring disaster to SA" (June 27), simply revives that feeling of surprise at the hate that the English have felt towards us for over two centuries.
Much of the current violence and xenophobic attacks on foreigners can be explained by the transference of ethnic animus from the English to the rest of the population via the domination of their language in education, religion and the media. The British imperialist has given birth to the Charles Taylor-style Afro-Saxon nihilist.
Thank God Germany trounced England at soccer. Those Free State Afrikaners waving German flags in Bloemfontein certainly provided me with some solace. They were echoing Hendrik Potgieter's words to the governor of Natal in 1840: "I am not British and I never want to become British."
