Meshack Mabogoane: Mondli Makhanya's diagnoses of the ailment within the Office of the President and the person of the president are apt and correct, but his prescription of the life expectancy of the incumbent is too optimistic.

Certainly, the constitution guarantees President Jacob Zuma a possible nine years. But recent history shows it may not be so; former president Thabo Mbeki is a witness. The constitution is merely a vehicle that allows a driver to get somewhere.

The ANC itself removed Mbeki; that body or the body politic itself may also remove or recall this most confused, incompetent, merry-go-round and reckless driver.

Perhaps history will repeat itself, not as party farce, but providential fulfilment.
