Shabangu's SIU claims are 'false' : iLIVE
Roux Shabangu's letter "Why Shabangu did not answer questions" (February 20) ) makes serious allegations against the Special Investigating Unit that are untrue.
He states that Sunday Times journalists "could well be the victims of manipulation by someone within the SIU who is determined to discredit me". The sole basis appears to be that the Sunday Times questions were "mirror copies" of the SIU questions.
Shabangu had agreed with the public protector to be interviewed as part of her investigation. She invited the head of the SIU to be part of the interview, as she had asked the unit to assist in the investigation. They took turns to ask questions, but, in fact, the public protector asked the majority of them. All the questions were prepared prior to the interview by investigators from the public protector, with the SIU merely playing a supportive role. Shabangu's statement is thus untrue.
He was never asked questions by the SIU alone. The SIU also strongly denies any collusion with the press.
The only information that has come into the public domain has clearly been from those who were witnesses to or implicated in the process - much of it clearly incorrect.
The public protector's report speaks for itself.
