Mbeki was not the only one to blame

Maxesibe Ximbi, Johannesburg: The guns are out for former president Thabo Mbeki concerning the battle against HIV/Aids - but who was it who really failed us?

The national secretary of the Young Communist League, Buti Manamela, and his supporters - including the media - have done very little to present a formidable case against Mbeki and show little or no understanding of the core issues.

Mbeki was not alone in listening to the leading experts on retroviruses, such as Nobel Prize winner for chemistry Karry Mullis. What is obvious is that those around him in the government failed us dismally through their nods.

We need to be careful not to be influenced by this urge to score political points when there is really very little in it for us.

We need to think for ourselves.

The author of this article could have done a better job developing this article. I am still waiting to read who are the other people to blame for the government failure to set up an AID treatment program. He never said one word about Dr. Zuma who was the health minister and said that SA was not going to set up an AID treatment program because it will cost too much.
