SA citizens given the cold shoulder

Jul 31, 2010 9:22 AM | By Diane, Ennerdale

Diane, Ennerdale: I agree with all the points made by Pieter de Villiers in "Cup success shows up day-to-day SA" (July 25).

The worst is that the flu vaccine was not available before the World Cup but now miraculously overflows in clinics because the visitors had no use for it.

Just shows how much they care for their own.

Furthermore, the proposed hike in ticket prices for the "white elephant" stadiums ... people should boycott. Why must the man in the street always pay?

Simply put, the simple man on the street is a FOOL. That is why.

Who else than the "man in the street" is going to pay for the nine white elephant stadiums erected for the 2010 World Cup? The capital invested in for e.g. the Cape Town stadium in Green Point will never ever be recouped, and it requires seven big events every month (that is an event every single Saturday, plus three more per month) just to play even with the maintenance costs.
Forget abou even thinking of hosting the Olympics in SA. The overtaxed citizens cannot be burdened any more. Every taxpayer anyhow has to support on average 4,5 receivers of social benefits.
