Info bill first up in National Assembly

The imposing entrance to the National Assembly

The controversial Protection of State Information Bill has been slotted first on the National Assembly's agenda, at 2pm on Tuesday.

The assembly will consider the report from the ad hoc committee on the bill before the House decides whether to pass the bill.

If a division is called for, MPs will individually vote on the bill in an ordinary open vote.

The various political parties will be able to make declarations on the bill before a decision is taken, parliament confirmed on Tuesday.

"When the bill is passed by the National Assembly, it will be referred to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) for consideration.

"The NCOP will then process the bill in terms of its rules," parliament said in a statement.

The bill was debated in the House last week.
