Mandela's daughter ordered to pay R62m: report

Nelson Mandela's daughter Zindzi must reportedly pay Los Angeles boxing adviser Duane Moody about R62.1-million for breaching a boxing contract.

According to The Star newspaper, US judge Richard Niedorf ruled that Zindzi must pay Moody for breaching a contract that was to see boxing champions Floyd Mayweather jnr and Manny Pacquiao fight in South Africa as part of Nelson Mandela's 93rd birthday celebrations.

Moody stated in court papers that the event was supposed to be held at Orlando Stadium in Soweto last month but negotiations with Mayweather fell through when Zindzi did not come up with the money to finance the event.

Moody sued Zindzi for breach of oral contract, promise without the intent to perform and negligent misrepresentation.

"We do not want to say anything further as this might affect our ability to recover the money," said Moody's lawyer, Jamie Keeton.

Zindzi's US representative Michael Lodge said Zindzi was aware of the judgment and that she believed Mohlaleng Media would cover the legal costs as she was a consultant with the company.

Mohlaleng Media did not respond to questions sent to them, said the newspaper.
