ANC moves in on DA Cape turf

THABO MOKONE | 20 January, 2012 00:17

The ANC in the Western Cape has stripped the rival DA of control of one its municipalities in that province after joining forces with small civic organisations through a coalition.

Songezo Mjongile, the provincial secretary of the Western Cape ANC, announced yesterday in Cape Town that his party would now govern the West Coast local municipality of Matzikama after entering into a coalition with The People's Independent Civic Organisation and the New Generation Party.

The Matzikama municipality includes the West Coast towns of Vrendenal, Lutzville and Doringbaai.

Last year's local government elections failed to produce an outright winner of the municipality and the two organisations swung the balance of forces in the DA's favour through a pact of co-governance. But they have now ditched the Western Cape governing party, accusing it of "arrogance and elitism".

The small municipality has 15 seats, with the ANC holding six, the DA seven while TPICO and NGP have one apiece.

"The ANC, TPICO and NGP coalition will take services to those people who need it most and give them the priority they deserve," said Mjongile.

This brings to eight the number of municipalities controlled by the ANC in the Western Cape through coalitions with smaller parties, while the DA has the outright control of 17.

Watch the rot set in. At least the cadres will be able to now live like those in Limpopo etc. on their ill gotten gains.

Cynical, brother! I would hope that with good governance and service delivery all around them, they wouldn't dare go the Limpopo route, because it would be too easy to see. Naive, I know, but you've got to cling to every bit of hope in SA!

Pity! The only South African province that has been able to rid itself of the ANC kleptocracy. This surely is a step in the wrong direction.

Hey Spain, do yourself a favour: visit the centre of Cape Town, then visit the centre of Jo'burg, then you will SEE the DIFFERENCE between the D(ynamic) A(dministration) in the Western Cape and the A(trocious) N(auseating) C(orruption) in the rest of the country! Oh, and by the way, have you forgotten which province has had the best Matric results?! One final thing, go look up the word "atrocious" so that you get its full meaning!

Its amazing what a bribe or two will achieve in SA.

Dont worry though this is a short term diversion. By the next election these rentapols will be out of a job.

Concur. The DA need only one more seat there to get an outright majority. I'm not worried.

Entering into coalitions and ruling from via the back door is cheating in my books. But then again what else do you expect from cANCer. It slowly infects and kills a healthy body...
Watch this space. The next service delivery protest will be in "Vrendenal, Lutzville and Doringbaai"

Well, if the coalition was done to better serve the community it is fine. But knowing the ANC this move was about usurping power more than anything else. I am sure that the smaller organizations did not ask their voters what their opinions and feelings were regarding this. Anyway, who can blame the leaders of these organizations, I guess they were promised pie in the sky.......And when they were entering the agreement, they were not paying attention to the fine writings on the contract but were looking at their pockets.....Ha.

TimesLive - how about an article on Mo Shaik's departure from his current position - as well as his reported R5million payout claim and demand for redeployment into another government department?

Mr W

I now see I have been out of order recently. What with returning to "work" and this being the last year for the human race my mood has not been of the sunniest.

Look at at it this way though, with the apocalypse will come Jesus. Meaning at least the end of the anc regime of buffoonery. Such a pity though. We Mzansiites could have done so much better.

All thats good for 2012 and to the other Bloggers also.
