Cape Town offers its 'expertise' to national government

Patricia de Lille named people who allegedly received bribes

The City of Cape Town will offer its expertise on infrastructure development and public transport to the national government, mayor Patricia de Lille said on Thursday.

She said this would be done in the spirit of co-operative governance following Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan's budget speech on Wednesday.

"The focus on infrastructure-led growth... is one that has been at the core of the agenda of the city since 2006," said De Lille.

"There is an urgent need for national government to help all spheres of government develop public-private partnership wherever possible, to develop infrastructure programmes so that the market can accommodate for capacity issues."

She said the city would contribute knowledge on public transport, as it was a national leader in this area.

De Lille welcomed Gordhan's announcement of an additional R4 billion allocation to the Passenger Rail Agency of SA.
