ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has been expelled from the ANC, the party's national disciplinary committee (NDC) chairman Derek Hanekom said on Wednesday evening.

"Cde Julius Malema is expelled from the ANC," the NDC said in a statement.

Malema could appeal this sanction within 14 days.

Youth league secretary general Sindiso Magaqa's membership was suspended for three years. This sanction was suspended for three years, but would kick in if he was found guilty of misconduct in terms of the ANC constitution during the period of suspension.

League spokesman Floyd Shivambu's membership was suspended for three years.

"This sanction is applicable to cde Shivambu's membership of the ANC Youth League. Consequently, he shall vacate his position as a member of the national executive committee of the ANC Youth League."

He could also appeal the sanction within 14 days.
