VIP protection driver Joseph Semitji, who is accused of knocking a West Rand teenager off his motorcycle, appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charges of reckless and negligent driving were read to Semitji.

The court postponed the matter to October 3 for trial.

Semitji is out on a warning.

Thomas Ferreira was hit by a vehicle linked to Gauteng local government and housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi. He was brain damaged in the accident in November 2011.

Ferreira has been given an interim payout of R800 000 by the Road Accident Fund.
