Previously, African National Congress Youth League meetings had focused on overturning Malema's expulsion, but recently a new focus on policy had emerged, City Press reported.

No mention was made of Malema at a policy workshop in Pretoria this week.

Neither Malema nor the Friends of the Youth League (FYL) were invited to the workshop, apparently because the organisers did not have their e-mail addresses.

An FYL organiser complained to the newspaper that he was battling to set up a meeting with ANCYL deputy president Ronald Lamola.

Gauteng ANCYL chairman Lebogang Maile called this week for Malema and suspended ANCYL secretary general Sindiso Magaqa to be replaced, the Sunday Times reported.

The ANCYL's constitution stated that in the absence of the president or the secretary, their deputies should take over.

However, ANCYL leadership had resolved to continue to recognise Malema and Magaqa until the next congress in 2014.

This was inconsistent with the ANCYL's constitution and that of the ANC, Maile said.

"We would want the constitution to be followed to the letter," he told the newspaper.
