Some Gauteng primary schools are without textbooks like many of their counterparts in Limpopo, the DA in the province says.

Edenglen Primary School, in Ekurhuleni, had not yet received maths and science textbooks, and other workbooks for the second half of the year, said Democratic Alliance Gauteng education spokesman Khume Ramulifho.

"This school also only received workbooks for the first half of this year in May, and like many other schools in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape... now has to play catch up in order for them to complete their 2012 syllabus on time," he said in a statement.

He said the provincial DA was preparing to pursue the matter in the legislation and had contacted Gauteng education MEC Barbara Creecy for the remaining textbooks to be delivered.

Gauteng education department spokesman Charles Phahlane could not immediately offer comment on the DA's allegations.
