The Western Cape attracted over R30 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the last three years, Economic Development MEC Alan Winde said on Thursday.

"The Western Cape has been able to continue to attract international foreign investment despite the global economic downturn," he said at the opening of a factory in Cape Town.

"It is the residents of our province that benefit from these investments in increased job opportunities and improved infrastructure development."

Winde said 80 FDI projects between 2009 and 2012 had resulted in 6900 jobs.

The United Kingdom was the top investor, followed closely by the United States.

The other countries investing in the province were France, Germany and the Netherlands.

"It is clear that our province is becoming a leading business destination for international companies.... We are doing all that we can to make it easy to do business in our region."
