Mpumalanga's director general of administration Jacob Rabodila has been relieved of his duties, the office of premier David Mabuza said on Wednesday.
"The decision follows lengthy discussions and consultation between the two which ended with an amicable agreement," it said in a statement.
"All guidelines and frameworks as prescribed by the ministry of public service and administration have been considered by the premier to release the director general."
The decision was with effect from Monday. No further details were provided.
Mabuza thanked Rabodila for his contribution, leadership and guidance in the past three years.
The province's deputy director general for macro policy and planning, Thulani Mdakane, had been appointed to act in his place.
