About 200 IFP supporters gathered at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg, on Friday.
The group was preparing to march to the SABC building in Auckland Park, where they were expected to lay a complaint against the public broadcaster for failing to give their party coverage.
"We call the media when we have events, but they are never there; but, when there is trouble, they are the first to come running," said a female demonstrator, who only identified herself as Ndumiso.
Wearing Inkatha Freedom Party T-shirts and cloths depicting their leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, some of the men waved sticks and shields in the air and engaged in song.
"Malema is disrespectful," they sang in Zulu.
Several buses carrying protesters were arriving at the square.
