Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi retained his position unopposed on Monday at the trade federation's 11th national congress.

Vavi was the only candidate nominated for the position, it was announced at the conference in Midrand Johannesburg.

Bheki Ntshalintshali would remain Vavi's deputy.

The Congress of SA Trade Union's (Cosatu) president Sidumo Dlamini would also retain his position, after being the only one nominated for the position.

First deputy president and second deputy president, Tyotyo James and Zingiswa Losi respectively would also retain their positions.

A second candidate was nominated for first deputy president, but did not qualify for the position.

Freda Oosthuizen was the only candidate nominated for the position of treasurer.

Once nominations had been closed, police union Popcru objected and asked that nominations stay open. This request was booed by delegates and no affiliate would second it.

The current Cosatu leadership thus remained the same.
