ANC members who take the party to court expel themselves, the party’s secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said ahead of a judgement on the party’s Free State nominations.

“Those who take the ANC to court, they have expelled themselves,” he said.

The Constitutional Court is expected to rule at 10am on an application by six ANC members for the province’s nomination conference to be declared null and void.

They have alleged that the ANC did not adequately deal with irregularities at the conference.

Mantashe said 16 cases had been brought against the ANC until now.

He said the cases were usually driven by one lawyer and “that same advocate will be in the case of the North West, and people will say they are disgruntled”. He did not name anyone.

The party had to rerun its Western Cape and Limpopo conferences ,where nominations were put forward for leadership elections at the party’s 53rd national conference in Mangaung, which starts on Sunday.

The party declared the North West nominations finalised even though some disputes had been raised and an ANC member was shot on Thursday.

Mantashe said: “Once it happens, it is not spontaneous. It is organised chaos.”
