Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale and three MECs visited a giant theme park in China to get ideas for tourism.

Beeld reports that Mathale, economic development, environment and tourism MEC Pinky Kekana, agriculture MEC Jacob Marule, and roads and transport MEC Pitsi Moloto visited the Fantawild theme park in Shenzen in China's Guandong province in the first week of December.

Beeld reported that Mathale said visiting the theme park inspired him with new ideas about tourism in Limpopo. The group also visited the Funtop LED Lighting Aesthetic Experts lightbulb factory.

The premier's spokesman Mashadi Mathosa told the newspaper the group visited the factory because there was great demand for these products in Limpopo and the rest of South Africa.

"It has the potential for investments."

Mathale met with Guo Gengmao, the governor of China's Henan province, with which Limpopo had forged ties in agriculture.

The group also went to Seoul, South Korea, and visited electronics and telecommunications company LG. Beeld reported that Mathale said it would be wonderful if students from Limpopo could study there.

The cost of the full trip was not known.

Since last year, five of Limpopo's departments had been placed under administration by the Treasury, after they ran out of money.
