Zuma names ANC offices in Durban

President Jacob Zuma officially named the ANC provincial headquarters in Durban on Friday.

The offices were named after former ANC president Dr Pixley ka Seme, who Zuma described as an "opinionated" man.

Zuma said ka Seme was an ambitious man who studied to be a lawyer overseas and later fought against the Land Act in South Africa.

He expressed his happiness about the naming of the offices, saying it meant that the names of the party's leaders would always exist.

Zuma said people could come to report their problems at the office.

ANC supporters stood in the rain during the ceremony and parts of Stalwart Simelane Street, where the offices are situated, were cordoned off, causing traffic problems.

Earlier, hundreds of ANC supporters braved cold and rainy weather in Durban to parade through the city, as part of the party's 101st birthday celebrations.

The procession started on Pixley ka Seme Street. It went through the city centre and ended at Stalwart Simelane Street.

The parade included mascots, supporters wearing traditional attire, hats depicting the new South African flag and yellow T-shirts bearing an image of Zuma.
