SARS applies to have Malema declared bankrupt
The SA Revenue Service (SARS) has filed papers in the High Court in Pretoria to have expelled African National Congress Youth League president Julius Malema sequestrated.
The City Press reported on its website that, according to court papers, Malema owes SARS R16 million and is "factually insolvent and in no position to make payment of his indebtedness to SARS".
Malema and his lawyers would decide on Thursday whether to oppose the application.
If the application succeeded or was unopposed, all Malema's properties - including his house in Sandton, and his house, smallholding and farm in Limpopo - would be placed under curatorship and auctioned to cover his debts.
City Press reported that, according to the court documents, SARS had rejected an offer by Malema to borrow R4m to settle his outstanding taxes until 2011, because of inconsistencies in his representations.
In its papers, SARS reportedly stated that discrepancies in Malema's representation of his net assets were not conducive to concluding that he had made a full and frank disclosure, and supported its contention that "it would be to the benefit of Malema's creditors to sequestrate his estate".
Malema had until February 18 to notify SARS whether he intended opposing the application, City Press reported. The hearing was scheduled for February 27.

But the boy is still young. SAS let him finish his degree and get a job as a political researcher somewhere or at the University of Limpopo.

We are going to miss you, boy!
Your colleagues, your supporters and especially YOU have entertained us, non-stop with reality stand-up comedy of the highest standard, right through ....FOR FREE!!!
Right from "I will kill for Zuma" all the way to "I will rule the ANC" you were absolutely hilarious. Under you 'Kill the Boer' became 'Kiss the Boer' and you know what ...you, personally helped to fast-forward the downfall and final demise of the ANC by at least a decade.
How can we thank you? We would like to send money but we know you have your secretly funded economic revolutionary Malema Family Trust fund to help you out, neh?
Because you failed so dismally to nationalise the banks and mines we have decided to instead nationalise braai in SA and make it compulsory to all. We will also nationalise Mike Schutte and van der Merwe jokes and call them all after you!!
...tata Juju, there's a bright orange overall with your name on it, waiting!!
