A few hundred students sang songs ridiculing President Jacob Zuma at the Vaal University of Technology in Vanderbijlpark on Tuesday.

Many of them dressed in red T-shirts and red Economic Freedom Front berets packed the parking lot at the campus's main residence. Some tried to shade themselves from the scorching sun by standing under umbrellas.

As EFF leader Julius Malema made his way to a bakkie, from which he would speak, students screamed and EFF marshals tried to hold them back.
