EFF leader Julius Malema is confident that his party will win the May 7 general election.

"We are the government-in-waiting," he said outside a voting station in Soweto on Sunday.

"We'll take over. We are supported by our people and the majority of youth. We think we'll do very well."

He said the Economic Freedom Fighters was what South Africans had been waiting for.

"People have been looking for a credible black-led alternative and that's what we are."

Malema said he wanted his organisation to grow, and that was why it was recruiting while urging people to vote in the final voter registration weekend.

Malema said he was thankful for the presence of his supporters all over the country.

On the ruling African National Congress, he said it had failed to be a peaceful organisation.

"We are always tolerant of the ANC, they are intolerant of us. If only the ANC can stop using violence."

Malema said he was not only encouraging the young to vote, but also the older citizens. He said the EFF had about 50,000 members across the country.

EFF supporters sang outside Lamula Jubilee Secondary School when Malema arrived shortly before midday.
