The National Freedom Party welcomed about 2500 new members in Bizana in the Eastern Cape on Thursday, party leader Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi said.

"I am happy that our party is growing stronger on a daily basis and this serves as a boost for us as we move closer towards national elections," she said in a statement.

"Contrary to what the prophets of doom said, the NFP grows very fast and we make inroads in all provinces on a daily basis."

kaMagwaza-Msibi said most of the party's newest members were previously with the African National Congress.

They had decided to change parties because their lives had not changed since 1994. The area they lived in was underdeveloped, they had no access to water, schools, clinics and unemployment in the area was rife, she said.
