It is in South Africa's own interest to support localisation and small businesses, Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba said on Thursday.

"South Africa will grow and thrive...help the manufacturing sector to grow and thrive on the basis of localisation," he said at a breakfast briefing hosted by The New Age in Johannesburg.

"It is so important that South Africa is now increasingly embracing the philosophy of long-term planning."

He said the country will not achieve this type of growth without the help of the private sector.

"So I expect the private sector to embrace this...and implement it robustly, to work with global and local industry...and to support programmes that will help South Africa grow."
