Zizi Kodwa is the ANC's new national spokesman, the governing party said on Monday.

He replaces Jackson Mthembu, who became a part of the African National Congress's caucus in Parliament following the general elections, deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte said in a statement.

"Comrade Zizi Kodwa brings with him valuable experience as a communicator who rose in the ranks of the ANC from the ANCYL (Youth League), where he was an NEC member and spokesperson."

Duarte said Kodwa later joined President Jacob Zuma's administration as a communications advisor.

He was also elected to the ANC's national executive committee following the ruling party's elective conference in Mangaung in December 2012.

"The ANC is confident that his acquired knowledge and application of communication skills will assist the ANC in its engagement with its stakeholders who are the public, the media, and civil society," she said.
