Rand Water senior manager takes up two government jobs

Rand Water senior manager Jimmy Manyi took up a second job in government before finding out if he was allowed to, City Press reported on Sunday.

Manyi was appointed earlier this month as adviser to Communications Minister Faith Muthambi, which he reportedly told Rand Water was a part-time position.

Rand Water spokesman Fawcett Ngoatje said the parastatal had written to the public service and administration department to get clarity on the issue. He told the paper Manyi submitted a formal declaration of interest to Rand Water.

"Rand Water has referred the matter for policy advice to the relevant government department," Ngoatje was quoted as saying.

"Currently, Mr Manyi is submitting annual leave for external engagements."

Public service spokesman Dumisani Nkwamba said Rand Water was not governed by the Public Service Act, which stipulates that government officials could not have jobs government jobs.

Ngoatje reportedly said once Rand Water had obtained clarity it would make a decision.
