A member of the EFF's caucus staff was manhandled and thrown out of the Gauteng Legislature by police on Friday, according to the party.

"Fighter Julius [Mdluli] was thrown out of the media and public gallery while in the course of his duties," Economic Freedom Fighters' provincial leader Mgcini Tshwaku said in a statement.

Mdluli is the party's media and communications officer in the provincial caucus. Tshwaku claimed Mdluli was "manhandled and threatened".

Police could not confirm the incident, while the Gauteng Legislature said it would comment on the matter later.

Tshwaku said his party asked for a meeting with the Speaker and other leadership of the Legislature, as well as informing community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane about the incident.

"All this because the Legislature is persisting in its unconstitutional gagging of the House proceedings and sidelining the real content of the proceedings in the House -- instead choosing to highlight chosen portions of the proceedings that are specifically hand-picked and isolated to make the EFF look bad," he said.
