North West premier Supra Mahumapelo has been re-elected ANC provincial chairman at the party's conference, the ANC said on Saturday.

"The top five positions were uncontested. The attendees were all excited about the chosen cadres," the party said in a statement.

The rest of the top five are deputy chairman Sello Lehare, secretary Dakota Legoete, deputy secretary Suzan Dantjie and treasurer Kgakgamatso Morwagaswe.

The ANC in the North West had been marred by factionalism leading up to the party's elective conference in 2012, where President Jacob Zuma was re-elected party leader.

The province was divided between a group supporting Zuma for re-election, led by Mahumapelo, and another group campaigning for former deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe to replace Zuma.
