Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has said that the fall of the statue of Cecil Rhodes at the University of Cape Town is a major step towards defeating white supremacy in South Africa.

“It is that statue that continues to inspire [whites] to think that they are a superior race, and it is through collapsing of these types of symbols that the white minority will begin to appreciate that there’s nothing superior about them,” Malema told delegates at the summit of the party’s student wing at the University of the Witwatersrand on Sunday according to the Mail and Guardian.

Malema further went on to say that whites shouldn't have a problem with black rule, as “ordinarily you must be under us”.

He claimed that was because black people are the majority, and "not because of legislation that seeks to create black people as a superior nation."

He also cautioned against black domination - saying it would invite rebellion.
