EFF protests ahead of Denel court application

Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) this morning protested outside the Western Cape High Court this morning ahead of an application for an eviction order against the illegal occupants of Denel-owned land. The state-owned defence manufacturer launched the legal process after EFF supporters invaded its property in Philippi‚ near Khayelitsha‚ on Easter Monday.In a statement released today‚ Denel said: “Acts of this nature play with the emotions of poor people in that people who lead such invasions‚ do not warn people that they are breaking the law and their hopes will be dashed as the law will subsequently take its course.”On Tuesday night‚ Denel got an interdict from the court to prohibit and restrain unlawful entry onto the property.The following day‚ angry Khayelitsha residents flung stones and faeces at police and civilians when council officials‚ acting on the interdict‚ tore down their homes and ordered them to vacate the land...
