The Economic Freedom Fighters have expelled Mpho Ramakatsa, Andile Mngxitama and Khanyisile Tshabalala.

They have also suspended Lucky Twala's membership for three years.

The four members had been suspended from the party in February, after an attempted media conference ahead of the state-of-the-nation address in Cape Town led by Mngxitama.

The conference was cancelled when other EFF members arrived, and objected to it.

Mngxitama's faction then announced a "Save the soul of the EFF" campaign alleging that the party's leadership was engaged in cover-ups.

In March they claimed they would not leave the party.

"We want to save the EFF because we cannot allow a situation which we see in other parties taking place here, where democratic principles are overlooked because of certain power individuals," Mngxitama said.
