ANC MP Jackson Mthembu still has nightmares about the day he was shot and wounded while drawing money at a Witbank ATM.

"The emotions are still there, you even dream about these terrible things," he told News24.

"When you go to an ATM everything comes flooding back. So it will take some time," Mthembu said.

Mthembu was drawing money at an ATM on Mandela Street in Witbank, Mpumalanga, on Sunday, October 19 when he was approached by an armed man who demanded that he draw all his money from his account. A scuffle ensued and Mthembu was shot.

The armed man and three accomplices then went to Mthembu's car. Four of Mthembu's friends were waiting in the car. They robbed Mthembu and his friends of their money and cellphones.

After the shooting he spent ten days in hospital, seven of which were in intensive care.

"His internal injuries caused internal bleeding and formation of a blood clot near his left shoulder," spokesman Zizi Kodwa said when Mthembu was released from hospital.

According to the News24 report Mthembu has been attending the trial of the men who shot him.

"I just want this to be done with so that one can continue with one's life... The good thing is I'm almost recovered and able to do my parliamentary work and do all that which is expected of me," Mthembu said.
