The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called on the Rustenburg municipality to take action against an African National Congress (ANC) ward councillor whom it alleges “uses his status to solicit bribes including sexual favours in exchange for helping residents”. The party on Wednesday said it had “received concrete complaints from residents” about the councillor after a recent visit to the area. The EFF named one complainant‚ Palesa Mohau‚ whom it said “told the community meeting…that this is not the first time that councillors tell women that they need to sleep with them in order to for them to receive jobs and access other opportunities”.EFF national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Quintin Ndlozi said: “The practice of asking for sex from women in exchange for jobs‚ RDPs and other services which they deserve by councillors is widespread in our communities.“However‚ for the first time‚ a resident came out and testified in front of the whole community that she has personally experienced such at the hands of (the councillor).“This is part of the super sexual exploitative culture that has penetrated our country's politics and blocking access for poor women to deserving basic services.”Ndlozi said the EFF will be writing to write a letter to co-operative governance minister Pravin Gordhan and the Rustenburg municipality to take action against the councillor.“He must be held accountable for a message to be sent that our democracy has no place for sexists who abuse poor women in our communities.”..
