ANC Youth League official Patrick Wisani‚ who is accused of murdering his girlfriend‚ will spend another weekend behind bars awaiting the outcome of his bail application. The case was postponed on Friday at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court because the alternative address Wisani provided to the court could not be confirmed.Wisani‚ 30‚ allegedly beat his girlfriend‚ Nosipho Mandleleni‚ 24‚ to death with a sjambok earlier this month at a home they shared in Yeoville. He handed himself over to the police two days later.Mandleleni's sister‚ who lives in the same house Wisani shared with Mandleleni‚ has been identified as a state witness. If Wisani is granted bail‚ he is not allowed to return to the house‚ because she still lives there.Prosecutor Richard Mashobane told the court that when the police visited the address Wisani had provided‚ they were told by the building's security guard that the flat's owner is out of the country.A second alternative address will be verified over the weekend.Outside court members of advocacy organisation Sonke Gender Justice gathered in protest‚ chanting: “No to killings. No to slap of love. No to sjambokking.”The organisation's Tumi Komanyane said Mandleleni's violent death is not an isolated incident‚ and that the government needed to implement a national strategic plan to deal with gender-based violence. According to Sonke Gender Justice gender-based violence costs the country R42-billion annually. The case returns to court on Monday.- TMG Courts and Law, RDM News Wire..
